How to Take Your "Emotional Temperature"

Knowing how you are feeling right in this moment begins a process of self awareness and self regulation. Tuning in to what’s going on within and sharing how you feel connects you to yourselves and to others. No matter how you are feeling, being aware is always a great first step to managing emotions.

My colleague, Eileen Melody, and I created an easy-to-use method called “Taking Your Emotional Temperature.”

This simple process is designed to help students communicate to each other and adults how they’re feeling using the fingers on one hand.

We encourage you to share this with your own children and your students! You can ask them “what is your emotional temperature” to get an accurate sense of how they’re feeling so you and others can best support them.⠀
